            Short Version: TabInsights stores all your data locally on your own device. We do not collect, transmit, sell, or share your browsing history, personal information, or any other data with anyone. No accounts. No servers. No tracking.
        

1. Who We Are

TabInsights ("we", "our", or "the extension") is a Chrome browser extension that helps users track focus time, block distracting websites, and manage tabs. This Privacy Policy explains how the extension handles your data.

2. Data We Collect

TabInsights collects and stores the following information locally on your device only, using Chrome's built-in chrome.storage.local API:

Website time tracking: Domain names of websites you visit and how long you spend on each. Only the domain (e.g., example.com) is stored — never full URLs, page titles, query parameters, or page content.
Tab information: Titles and URLs of tabs you open, solely to power features like Tab Search, Favorites, Sessions, and Declutter. This data stays on your device.
User preferences: Your blocked domains list, focus flows, custom categories, notification settings, and feature toggles.
Focus statistics: Aggregated productivity data such as Focus Score, streaks, and sprint history.
Bookmarks: When you use the "Sync Bookmarks" or "Save as Bookmark" features, we read from or write to Chrome's bookmark system on your device.

3. Data We Do NOT Collect

❌ We do not collect your name, email, phone number, or any personally identifiable information.
❌ We do not collect full URLs or the content of web pages you visit.
❌ We do not collect passwords, form data, or any sensitive input.
❌ We do not use cookies, analytics SDKs, advertising networks, or third-party trackers.
❌ We do not sell, rent, or share your data with anyone, for any reason.

4. Where Your Data Is Stored

All extension data is stored locally on your device inside Chrome's sandboxed extension storage. The data never leaves your device unless you explicitly choose one of the following actions:

Export Data: You manually download a JSON or CSV backup of your own data to your computer.
Import Data: You manually select a previously-exported backup file to restore.
Cloud Sync (Pro feature): If you enable Cloud Sync, a limited subset of your settings (blocked domains, focus flows, custom categories, preferences) is synced across your own Chrome-signed-in devices using Chrome's chrome.storage.sync API, which is encrypted by Google and tied to your own Google account. We do not have access to this data. Your browsing history and focus statistics are never synced.

No hidden requests. During normal use, TabInsights makes zero external network requests — the interface font, site icons, and every asset are bundled and served entirely on your device. The only times the extension contacts a server are the explicit actions above, and a one-time license check if you purchase Pro.

5. Permissions We Use & Why

storage — Save your preferences and stats locally.
tabs & tabGroups — Read tab titles/URLs to power Search, Declutter, and Grouping features.
bookmarks — Read Chrome bookmarks for the Sync Bookmarks feature and save tabs to bookmarks when requested.
declarativeNetRequest — Block websites in Focus Mode. This permission does not let us read network traffic — it only allows Chrome to block URLs you've configured.
windows — Open saved sessions in new windows.
alarms — Schedule background tasks (e.g., productivity alerts, daily summary, sprint timer).
notifications — Show productivity alerts and daily summary notifications.
downloads — Let you download your data export file.
contextMenus — Add the right-click "Read aloud" menu item.
tts, scripting & activeTab — Read aloud the text you select, only on the tab where you invoke it.
favicon — Show site icons in your top-sites list using Chrome's local favicon cache. This is served on your device and makes no network request.

6. Payments (Pro Upgrade)

If you choose to upgrade to TabInsights Pro, payments are processed securely by Dodo Payments. We do not see or store your credit card number, billing address, or any payment details. When you activate a license key, the extension validates it against Dodo Payments' license API; the only information involved is your license key and a flag indicating whether Pro is active. Please refer to Dodo Payments' Privacy Policy for information about how they handle payment data.

7. Data Retention & Deletion

Browsing history older than 30 days is automatically pruned from the extension's local storage. You can delete all extension data at any time by:

Using the "Reset Data" or "Clear Usage Data" buttons inside the extension, OR
Uninstalling the extension — this removes all locally stored data immediately.

8. Children's Privacy

TabInsights is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect any data from anyone — children or adults — as all data remains on the user's device.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy occasionally. Any changes will be reflected on this page with an updated "Last updated" date. Significant changes will be communicated through the extension's update notes on the Chrome Web Store.
